Gold has been mined in Egypt for over 6,000 years, dating back to the pre–Pharaonic Era. The pharaohs mined gold in the Eastern Desert from quartz veins using massive stone hammers to crush the quartz and extract visible gold. The ancient rulers of the time claimed gold was as “abundant as dirt” in this region. Tutankhamun’s mask is a fine example of golds use at the time, when the rulers believed gold was the “flesh of the gods” and associated it with immortality as it did not tarnish or decay.

Golden Goliaths new Egyptian asset, the West Gabal El Dehies Concession, is located within this same region which has been underexplored and has had limited investment in modern times. To this day remnants of Pharaonic mining can be found and significant quantities of gold is still mined. The Sukari Gold Mine, operated by Anglo Gold Ashanti, continues to produce significant quantities of gold, producing 40,000 ounces per month (December 2024) https://www.anglogoldashanti.com/portfolio/africa/sukari-egypt/
